Returning the Sanity
By Crystal Maiden

"Ay yi yi! It’s Zhane!" Alpha screeched and waved his arms.

"Alpha calm down. What is wrong with Zhane?" Zordon asked calmly.

"I think the question is . . . what is right with Zhane." A voice says behind the two and they see Zhane walk onto the bridge shaking his head.

Alpha jumped up and down and pointed to Zhane, "He’s alive...He...He’s alive!"

Zhane shook his head and laughed, "Chill Alpha, I'm not Frankenstein."

Zordon smiled, "It is good to see you again, young Zhane. But I must ask; how did you heal so quickly? You were less than 10% healed when the rangers left yesterday."

Worry clouded over Zhane’s eyes and he ignored Zordons question, "What do you mean the rangers left yesterday? How long have I been in hypersleep?"

"Almost three weeks." Zordon told him and Zhane sighed in relief, "The Rangers left yesterday for the planet Glacieron in order to lure the Psycho Rangers-"

"Whoa whoa, wait a minute now. Who are the Psycho Rangers?" He asked.

Zordon explained, "The Psycho Rangers have been manufactured by Astronema as the Astro Rangers robotic twins. Their only weakness was cold temperatures-"

"So they went to an ice planet to better their chances of defeating them." Zhane finished and nodded his head. "Well, I gotta help them."

"But Zhane there are things that you don’t know! About you powers-" Alpha started but Zhane held up his hand.

He shook his head a little, as if he remembered something from long ago...

He turned around and saw an enormous boulder sitting in the floor. He walked over to it and laying on it was his digimorpher.

A bright smile lit up on his face and he picked it up, "Wow, I never thought I’d see this again!"

After putting it back onto his wrist he took his morpher out of his back pocket.

"It’s no longer functions." A voice told him and he looked up to see Karone standing across from him.

"How do you know?" He asked her.

She smiled, "My boss told me."

"Zhane are you alright?" Alpka asked him.

Zhane looked to Alpha, then back to Zordon, and reached into his pocket to reveal his digimorpher.

Alpha gasped and Zordon’s eyes widened.

"How did you get that?" Alpha asked amazed, "The Psycho Rangers have the Astro Morphers!"

Zhane gave them a confused smile, "I think.... some how.... Karone gave it to me."

"It is possible for you to communicate with the others in your subconscience durning hypersleep. Perhaps you retrieved it there." Zordon offered.

Zhane nodded his head a little, trying to remember. It was almost as if a dark cloud was put over his memory during the time period of him being in hypersleep.

Zhane shook his head again. "There’ll be time to figure all that out later. First I’ve got to go help the others. Alpha is my Galaxy Glider ready?"

Alpha shook his head, "I’m afraid you will mot be able to take your Galaxy Glider. The cold tempertures would freeze it for good. We’ll have to transport you there. The Rangers have aleady retrieved their snow vehicles. Yours is still in the hanger."

Zhane nodded his head in understanding and they both walk towards the Glider Bay. Alpha ran over and grabbed a heavy coat out of Zhane’s locker and handed it to him along with a scanner.

"You’ll need this to find the others. They will be shocked to see you there!" Alpha told him and Zhane gave him his classic smile.

"Hopefully I won’t cause too much commotion."

The rangers stop their snowmobiles suddenly right outside the settlement of a few houses. The doors and windows are boarded up and the place looks deserted.

"Do you think anyone lives here?" Ashley asked over the howling wind.

Karone nods her head, "Yeah. During snow storms like this they always board up their houses to keep all the warmth inside. Let’s knock on one of the doors."

The other agree and they walked over to the nearest house and knock on the door. They wait a few minutes then heard a loud crack and snap and the door whooshed open and they saw a man.

"Come in, come in! Don’t let the cold air in!" He yells at them and they run inside just before the man closed the door with a slam and bolted it shut.

"What are you kids doing out in a storm like this?" The man asked them.

Karone steps up. "Actually sir, we are Power Rangers and we’re here to warn the village of possible attacks."

The mans eye widen and he looks at her closely, "I know you."

The other look at Karone strangely. Karone swallows and the man moves closer to her and continued looking at her, "Your the girl, the leader of the Ryanian Army. Aren’t you?"

Karon stood there and nodded her head.

The man tensed, "You’re the one that led the attack on Glacieron years ago for the Galaxy Alliance."

"Glacieron broke it’s treaty! I had no choice!" Karone argued.

The man clenched his fist and the rangers can see the anger building inside the man, "You kiiled millions of people!"

Karone shook her head fiercely, "No, Glacieron killed its own people by breaking their trety with Rytan. You made the choice of not releasing the Rytanian hotage. You made it into war."

Ashly, Carlos, and TJ all looked at Andros who had closed his eyes. They had remembered Karone telling them about the war on Glacieron once before, and they all got the sudden relization that things weren’t ‘peaceful’ between the two planets yet.

"You killed my son, do not talk to me about politics!" The man bellowed and Andros stepped in front of Karone.

"Look let’s not throw salt in old wounds, okay? This isn’t about any of that. Right now our main concern is that the Dark Fortress has landed on Glacieron and we’ve got to warn the other people in this village of possible attacks.

The man looked from Andros to Karone and back at Karone, "You brought Astronema here? How could you do this?!"

Karone sighed and Andros tensed, "She didn’t bring Astronema here. We lured her here so we could destroyed the Psycho Rangers more easily."

The man shook his head, "The Commander Lanrydan I know would do this only to destroy more of Glacieron and it’s people."

Karone rolled her eyes and suddenly Ashley gasped. "Oh no...." Ashley moaned and everyone looked at her, "I think I dropped my scanner in the cave."

Everyone exchanged glances.

"Someone has go back and get it. If Astonema finds it-" Carlos says.

"She’ll always know where we are." TJ finished.

"I’ll go," Karone says automatically and walks over to the door, but the man steps in front of her.

"You aren’t going anywhere until you pay for what you did to my son." The man growled.

"You may not be able to make me go. But you’ll have to let the Pink Ranger go." She retorts and the man steps out of her way and she jerks the door opens and walks towards her snow mobile.

Could they possibly have come to an even more hostile enviroment?

Karone’s pink snow mobile slowed to a stop behind a snow dune and she slowly walked around the corner. She saw the Dark Fortress hovering in front of the secret cave,

"Guess I’ll be takin the back entrance." She mutters under her breath.

Karone walks into the entrance they burt out from eariler. The cave was dark, but she could see the shining light of Zhane snow mobile in the distance. She sighed and saw her breathe float in front of her. She immediatly crossed her arms, suddenly aware of how cold it was around her.

She heard a crunching noise behind her....Footsteps in the snow. She quickly twisted around and saw nothing, but she felt a pair of eyes on her.

She turned back around and walked a little faster, the footsteps continued to follpw her. Faster and faster , until she was in a full run. Suddenly she tripped and fell down. She rolled over onto her side and suddenly saw another version of herself on the opposite side of the cave.

"Shoot." Karone gasped as she backed up against the wall of the cave, her other vision does the same.

Karone’s heart begins to slow and she laughed to herself, "It’s just your reflection, Karone. Chill out."

She gets up onto her feet and walks into the dorm. She stands at the entrance, her eyes scaling the ground look for Ashley’s scanner.

"It’s just your reflection, Karone." A female voice says from behind her.

Karone’s body tenses and she slowly turns around to face herself.

The person suddenly shape shifts into the Pink Psycho Ranger, fully morphed, with an ice shaped spear in hand. "Chill out."

Psycho Pink glows and hurls her spear towards Karone, who quickly falls to the ground and rolls out of the way.

"I should’ve known you’d be looking for me, you....Psycho you!" Karone shouts.

Another ice spear appears in the evil rangers’ hand, "It won’t take long to finish you off."

She throws the spear at Karone, but just before it hits her someone jerks her out of the way.

"It may take longer than you think." A man's voice says. The man pulls Karone close to him, her back facing him and puts one hand across the front of her, then lifts his other hand and Karone sees a laser gun. He fired twice at the Psycho Ranger, who only gets hit once.

"This is not over, Pink Ranger!" Psycho Pink hissed, and disappeared.

Karone stands there for a few minutes, catching her beath and letting her heart rate slow down. She suddenly steps out from the man’s grip. "Thanks for saving my-" Karone starts, then she turns around to face her rescuer. Only when she saw his face, she couldn’t finish that sentence. She stood frozen. She couldn’t move, couldn’t speak.

Zhane smiled and stepped towards her, "Hey it’s only fair, after all you did save mine."

Karone opened her mouth, but nothing came out. Zhane laughed a little and brought his hand up tp stroke her cheek, but the affect wasn’t the same since he was wearing rough gloves.

"But how did you.... when did you.... where did you....?" Karone stuttered, blinking her eyes to figure out if she was dreaming or not.

Zhane smiled and drew her into a huge hug, "I’ll fill you in on the who, what, and where later. First we’ve got to do.... whatever it it you’re out here to do. By the way.... where are the others?"

Karone smiles and puts her arms around his neck, squeezing tight. It felt so good to have his arms around her again.

After a few minutes Zhane pulls away, "As good as you feel, we’ve gotta get back to work. Wouldn’t want the world to end, would we?"

Karone laughed a little, "Yeah you’re right."

They stand there silent a few seconds, then Zhane raises his eyebrows, "So the reason you’re here alone would be.... what?"

"Oh! Yeah the reason I ‘m here, is that-" Karone paused, then looked around quizzically, "Is that..."

Zhane laughs and suddenly Karone shouts, "The scanner! The scanner, Ashley’s scanner. Right, we have to find it."

"Ok, missing scanner, I can deal with. Almost finding my girlfriend as a girlfriend on an ice stick, I can’t deal with." Zhane says as they start walking around the dome.

Suddenly their communicator’s sound off and they hear Andros’ voice. "Zhane, nice to have you back!" Andros greets.

Karone looked at her communicator oddly, "Am I the last person to know everything in this galaxy??!!"

"Believe me, we were just as surprised as you were Karone. He showed up on our scanners a few minutes ago. By the way, have you found Ashley’s yet?" Her brother asks.

"Negative. I can’t find it anywhere." She replies.

"I’ll page all the scanners, the beeping should lead you right to it." She heard TJ say.

After a few seconds, a monotone beep sounded off a few feet away from her. She kneels to the ground and brushes away some snow, to uncover the missing scanner. She snatchs it and stands up, showing Zhane.

"We make a pretty good team don’t we?" She smiles, sticking the scanner into her coat, and then looks back up to find him smiling at her.

"The best."

Astronmea paces in front of her elite soliders inside the Dark Fortress. "You all have had time to study your counterparts. You've all gotten to know them, inside and out. From top to bottom. You should now be able to move like them, speak like them, and think like them. I have added all their different, individual fighting techniques into your mainframe-" She paused, "In other words your brain, so you are now exactly like the rangers in every way.. except for one thing. Does anyone know what that one thing is?"

Psycho Red steps up, "We are evil, your highness."

Astronema smiles, "Exactly. Well, it looks as if you all are about ready for your first team confrontation."

The Psycho’s step together in a straight line and salute.

"When do we begin our first attack, your highness?" Psycho Blue asks.

"Tomorrow morning. After they’ve had a very good nights rest." She replied, then smiles wickedly, "We wouldn’t want us to have a unfair advantage would we?"

It had been a long day for the rangers. After regrouping with the others, they had been invited to the Royal Glacieron Palace, courtesy of the king. They had of course accepted the invatation, considering how the civilians were reacting to having Karone around. Word has gotten out that she was there, and the civilians of Glacieron hadn’t taken too kindly to her presence. Luckily the king had not held a grudge against the Rytanians, Now Karone lay with Zhane cuddled under a blanket on the floor with a crakling fireplace near them.

Laying face to face only centimeters apart Karone sighs and presses her forhead against Zhane’s. "I missed you soooooooo much."

Zhane reaches one hand out from underneath the blaket and cups one side of her face, "Don’t miss me, I’m right here, and this time, I’m not going anywhere."

"Hopefully if the gods allow it, we’ll both be here." She replies and sees his face darken at her comment. Karone suddenly wished she wouldn’t have ruined the moment.

"I’m not letting anything happen to you. Ever." He promises.

Karone smiles the sits up and brings her knees to her chest, getting comfortable. "Can I ask you something?"

"Anything."

"How did you get healed so fast" She asks him and turns his head to face her, "What’s your secret?"

He averts his gaze back to the ceiling and says simply, "You."

Karone smiles and rolls her eyes, and gives him a nudge in the side with her foot, "C’mon."

He turns on his side to face her again. "Honestly I don’t remember anything. I mean, I remember being out of it the whole time, but I can’t seem to remember exactly what happened. I don’t know how... but somehow I know... I just know you where there, and you were helping me get through it."

She blushed a little. She had fogotten just how sweet Zhane could be at times.

"So..." Zhane started wanting to change the subject to something lighter. "Since I’ve filled you in on my life, fill me on in on yours. What have you been up to for the past few weeks? Not dating other guys... I hope."

She gave him a reassuring smile, "You’re the only guy for me. You needn’t worry at all."

Zhane smiled, then looked at her questioningly, "Needn’t?"

Karone shrugs her shoulder. "I started reading Hamlet yesterday. Anyways, I really haven’t done anything and I mean that literally, since you were....you know. All I’ve done was walk around in a daze."

"Kind of like how I acted when you were.... you know. Missing in action." He comments. Zhane realized the conversation is starting to go grim again, "C’mon you must’ve done something."

She pondered for a minute then sighed, "Well.... I did check your e-mail."

"Really? Did I get anything?"

"Yeah you actually did. That girl that does the radio show. Crystal something." She tells him.

Zhane’s face lights up. And he sits up. "She actually replied to my letter?! Wow, awesome. What’d she say?"

"She says that she didn’t get too many letter like yours, and gave you some advice on how to tell your friends about your... umm...illness." Karone replied quietly.

Zhane frowns and moves to sit beside her. He puts his arm around her and draws her close to him, whispering in her ear, "I’m sorry I didn’t tell you. I just didn’t want you to worry. Now that I realize that if I had told you, all of you, it would have been easier. I hated that you had to find out from Zordon."

She turns her head to face his. "It’s okay, just next time...please tell me when something's wrong."

He moved his face towards her slowly. "There won’t be a next time."

Her eyes look around the soft features of his face and she closes the distance between them.

Suddenly Zhane pulls away, "Wait, there’s something I want to ask you."

"Okay....what is it?" Karone asks, wondering what he could possibly want to talk about.

He cleared his throat, "Would you please meet with my mother again?"

Karone jaw drops open, then she realized he wasn’t kidding. "I .... I really don’t think that’s a good idea Zhane. I mean... you remember what she did last time."

"But this time will be different. I promise you. We’re going to sit down, and I’ll talk with her." Zhane promises, then give her his famous smile. "When I’m done talking she’ll have no choice but to love you."

"The rangers knew the Psycho’s weakness!" Astronema thundered. She swept her arm across the table and knocked maps onto the floor.

Ecliptor tried to calm her down. "We did not expect coldness to be a major weakness so we felt that-"

"Well you felt wrong! Now we’ve walked right into their little trap!" She screamed at him, then turned to Darkonda. "And YOU! You were suppose to make sure that they didn’t have a weakness!"

"My princess we did all that we could so that Dark Specter wouldn't be suspicious-" Darkonda reasoned.

"I don’t want to hear it. Set a course for Earth, we’re going to show those Rangers no one messes with us!" She commands.

Ashley sat in front of a mirror slowly brushing her hair thinking about Andros. Andros.... he was so gorgeous. When was the last time they have been on a date? It seemed like ages.

Suddenly she heard the door slid open. She turned to see Andros standing there. He didn’t look like he was there for a casual visit.

Ashley gets up and walks over to him, "What’s up?"

"We’ve got trouble," He sees her dark eyes darken, "Astronema’s on the move.... towards Earth."

To be continued...
